Metric irregularities within a "metric" passage are analysed following a methodology proposed by Christopher Hasty, especially his concept of throwing forth. The analysis concerns the mainly metrical fragment starting at measure 6/12 and ending at 9/16, in which subtle shifts allow a multiple hearing. "Listeners, Takemitsu writes, will experience a feeling of stillness, motion, space and time. These spaces and times are not the same as those in physics. They are rhythm of nature and time of mind."
